Welcome to the Croteau Family Genealogy web site! Many
years of work has been put into the research
and documentation of my ancestors. I hope you will benefit from the information I present
here. My web site originally started simply to map out the
ancestry of my close relatives. Needless to say it has grown to much more than
this. A cartoon said those who research genealogy do it at first out of curiosity, then it becomes a hobby, which turns into an obsession, eventually becoming a sickness.
Do you
recognize yourself?
My sources have come from documents and other records located in the various
Provinces such as Ontario & Quebec as well as the USA. Please take the
time to conduct your own investigations. There are many instances I have
found the same adult names, using the same children's names, only differing dates of
birth. Two different families using common names for the time period.
I have tried my best to confirm everything in this data base, alas, there are
some instances whereupon I had to rely on others. I may (unknowingly) be
perpetuating a false line in the family tree.
Originally I started
out recording my immediate family, but the more I researched, the more I found
available the entire Croteau name and lineage. The Croteau name evolved
into several different spellings such as Crotteau and Crotto or derivatives
thereof. If you find a family member, and you wish to submit a short
story or picture of the person you love, please feel free to contact me. I
have been accepting more information on family members now that I have more
server space to work with. There have been some interesting stories
to be told about the Croteau family members.
If you are aware of any information that is not correct, or
should be modified, I would appreciate you contacting me about it in a nice
message. Nasty messages will simply be deleted. If information is
open to the public, I will display it here. If you have a good reason why
you don't want your family name displayed, please let me know nicely.
There
are several ways to search this web site for your family. Use the
Surname List to reveal a list of surnames if you
think you know how it was spelled or use the Index of names
which I suggest is the next best to the special search below. In some
cases, I may spell the name differently than you for one reason or another.
Please use this internal search engine for names you are researching. Use quotes to search for a specific name. ie: "Mallory Croteau" or if you are looking specifically for two names use Mallory + Conrad and only those pages with both names will be presented. Searching for the name Croteau will cause you to have every page listed. The entire web site is about the name Croteau so think about it! Using your browsers Control + F feature to find a string of words on a particular page.

Upper Right: The blue and white color in the upper right
side with three hedgehogs represents loyalty. In ancient times, the
hedgehog was considered the divine creature of agriculture which when reading
about the family members, many were farmers.
Upper Left: The red shows signs of a blazing fire, the snakes and the
storks show a continuous bond with mother earth. Which in part comes from
our Métis heritage as well.
Bottom: The sign of triumph and elevation, the three salamanders in
medieval times was a belief this was the only animal that was able to walk over
fire without getting burned.

The Croteau Creek project will improve access to significant fish and wildlife resources by providing passage across Croteau Creek to 220 kilometers of forest road and associated fishing and hunting opportunities. The Croteau Creek on the Forks River Road near Timmins, Ont. is classified as a cool water fishery with species such as northern pike, walleye and minnows being present. The stream is used as a migratory route for fish to undertake different portions of their life cycle. On the upstream side of the crossing lies approximately 15 kilometers of stream. Croteau Creek drains directly into Nighthawk Lake, located approximately 5 kilometers from the crossing location.
