SKOWHEGAN -- Robert L. Croteau, 65, died unexpectedly at his home on Lambert Street in Skowhegan Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005.
He was born Oct. 11, 1940, in Skowhegan, the son of Lawrence and Evelyn (Bragg) Croteau. He graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1958. Robert served his country in the Air Force and retired from the Army National Guard as a staff sergeant.
He worked for 29 years as a custodian for School Administrative District 54. He looked forward to retirement when he could spend more time with his family and friends. Robert was an avid reader who enjoyed camping and loved his dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Gilbert-Croteau; his mother, Evelyn; a son, Michael Croteau and his fiance, Cheryl, of Anson; two daughters, Michelle Cyr and Marcie Barnes and her husband, Spencer, all of Skowhegan; three stepchildren, Laurie Edwards and her husband, Kendell, of Winthrop, Barbara Belliveau of Madison, and Craig Belliveau and his wife, Shelley, of East Madison; seven grandchildren, Brady, Taylor, Zachary, Matthew, Levi, Cameron, and Reno Jr.; a sister, Pamela McCarthy and her husband, Robert; six stepgrandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on the Mount Vernon Road in Augusta.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Somerset Humane Society, P.O. Box 453, Skowhegan, ME 04976. Arrangements are under the direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home 183 Madison Ave. Skowhegan.

In 1936, she married Chester Blow, who died in 1962. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Northfield. Survivors include a son, Leon; a daughter, Victoria (Mrs. George) Briggs; a step-son, Fernand Dupere; three step-daughters, Olivet Brassard, Felecia Calarco and Madeline Tafflin; two sisters; two grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.
