Mayme Caroline Hiukka, 79, of French River, passed away peacefully Jan. 24, 2009 in her longtime home.
Born May 14, 1929 in Kettle River to Matt and Lydia Mattson.
She attended St. Luke's School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse at St. Luke's Hospital for more than 40 years. Her passion for nursing led May to continue working part-time until age 77.
May was a member of French River Lutheran Church, and her hobbies included organic gardening, fishing, swimming, and a love for animals and the outdoors.
May is survived by her daughters, Jean King of Golden, Colo., and JoAnn Hiukka of Duluth; and her sons, John and Jerry of Two Harbors; 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; her brother, Eino of New Brighton; niece and nephews, and her beloved dog, "Angel".
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, in French River Lutheran Church, 5310 Ryan Road, Duluth, MN 55804. Donations in May's memory may be made to the French River AA Group, c/o French River Lutheran Church. May was loved greatly and will be missed by many

BELFAST - Aime J. Proulx, 90, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at a Belfast nursing home. He was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Fairfield, the son of Henry J. and Marie Alice (Croteau) Proulx.
Educated in Fairfield schools and business courses at Cornell University, he was a Purple Heart veteran of the U.S. Army and spent three and 1/2 years in the South Pacific Arena.
In 1951 he married Mary Hollingdale, a teacher at Lawrence High School, Fairfield. He was employed by Cottle's Markets from 1955 to 1980.
After retirement, he worked at the Maine State Liquor Store, Belfast. During his later years, he found great pleasure in his chair caning business, and various arts and craft hobbies. A talented singer, he was a member of the choir of St. Francis of Assisi Church and also performed at several local organizations.
He was predeceased by an infant son, Frederick; and an infant grandson, Zachary. He is survived by his wife of 56 years; three children, Sarah Tanner and her husband, Bruce, of St. Charles, Mo., Robert Proulx and wife, Janet, of Baileyville, and Martha Proulx of Waterville; three grandsons, Michael, Christopher and Dan-iel Proulx, who brought great joy to his life; brother, Maurice Proulx; and sister, Valerie Marcoux, both of Waterville.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Court Street, Belfast, with Father Joseph Koury officiating. Donations may be made in his memory to Waldo County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 407, Belfast, ME 04915. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
