High School graduate; nicknamed "Red Dorey" for his red hair, it was a brighter red in his younger days; played football in high school; member of Coast Guard during World War II;
autobody repairman; he often took his children along in the tow truck;
memory of English language, vocabulary; one night, he and Dolores played Scrabble against a couple who where professors and he won; Dolores was quite proud of him
beautiful singing voice; played drums;
enjoyed dancing; Dolores did not like to dance, but enjoyed watching him dance, especially the Jitterbug;
loving father; big man who liked to knit, his large hands made baby booties out of delicate angora yarn;
hard worker; handy; built additions onto their home
he and Dolores were very much in love
money was tight, but they each got a little to spend on a luxury of their choice; Paul bought a carton of cigarettes and one quart of beer and made them last all week; Dolores spent hers on Bingo
he and Dolores were staunch Catholics; had to christen children in a different parish due to the circumstances of their marriage (their first child, Paul, was born before they were married and their second child, Mary, was born shortly after their marriage; Paul lived hidden away with family in another state until custody issues concerning Dolores' son Gary were resolved; an illegitimate son would not have been looked on favourably by the courts)

Donald C. Foye Sr.
PORTSMOUTH - Donald Charles Foye Sr., of Portsmouth, died at Portsmouth Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 12, 2005, following a brief illness.
He was born in Rutland, Vt., on Dec. 7, 1919, the son of Leonard and Pauline (Fosburg) Foye. He graduated from Rutland High School, served in the Civil Conservation Corps. and worked briefly for the Rutland Railroad.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served until 1966. He served aboard the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean War.
He was then employed by the U.S. government at the naval prison at Portsmouth and as an athletic director at the naval base in Norfolk, Va. He retired in 1977 and moved to Dover, where he and his wife lived until 2003.
He married Pauline Dorey in 1941. They had eight children. His wife predeceased him in 2003.
He was a champion ski jumper in high school, a Golden Gloves Boxer, a referee in many sports and an avid golfer all his life. He holds the course record at Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth.
He is survived by his children, Judi Gosselin of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Lenny Fairchild of Rumford, Maine, Donald Foye Jr. of Stoughton, Mass., Leonard Foye of Port St. John, Fla., Patrick Foye of Eliot, Maine, Michael Foye of Portsmouth, Brian Foye of Pawleys Island, S.C., and Mary Jane Fillebrown of Tenants Harbor, Maine; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Carole Morgan of Queensbury, N.Y., and Harriet Fields of San Angelo, Texas.

Pauline Foye, 81, of Dover, N.H. died Saturday, Feb. 15 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, after a period of failing health.
Born on February 9, 1922, in Burlington, Vt., she was the daughter of Arthur J. and Delvina (Schneider) Dorey. Her family lived in Augusta, Maine, for many years when she was a child.
She was a member of the Bethel Church of Portsmouth.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Donald C. Foye Sr. of Dover, N.H.; eight children, Judith A. Gosselin of Boothbay Harbor, Lenny Jean Fairchild of Rumford, Donald C. Foye Jr. of Stoughton, Mass., Leonard A. Foye Sr. of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Patrick J. Foye of Eliot, Michael J. Foye of Portsmouth, N.H., Brian G. Foye of Charleston, S.C., and Mary Jane Fillebrown of Tenants Harbor; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Annette Gannon of Covina, Calif.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur, Raymond, Paul and Robert Dorey.
Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in St. Charles Cemetery, Dover, at a later date.
