Frank Crotteau, 97, Canton Pioneer, Succumbs Tuesday Frank Crotteau, who came to this area when Rice Lake was only a body of water from which the town later took its name, died Tuesday night at a local hospital following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's church here with Rev. Robert Riedmueller officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Mason Funeral home Friday afternoon and evening and a rosary is slated there at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Crotteau was born Jan. 1, 1869 in Canada and came here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Crotteau when he was only three. They settled on a farm four miles east of Rice Lake and he has lived in this vicinity all of his life. He was married in 1894 to Hermaline King and they farmed for many years in the town of Doyle.
Following her death in 1937, Mr. Crotteau went to live with a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Huiras east of Canton. He had been a resident of St. Joseph's Nursing home since last April. Mr. Crotteau is survived by four sons, Joseph, Fred and Maurice of Rice Lake and William of Canton; three daughters, Mrs. John Huiras of Canton, Mrs. Exzillia Kummit of Rice Lake and Mrs. Fred Boury of Mesa, Ariz.; 46 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and by a brother, Peter of Canton.

Mrs. Frank Crotteau
Mrs. Frank Crotteau, 59, a resident of the town of Sumner, died Friday; April 16, [1937] at her home from the effects of a stroke. Hermeline Crotteau, nee King, was born April 23, 1878, in Rice Lake and made her home here throughout her lifetime. She was united in marriage with Frank Crotteau in 1894.
She leaves to mourn her husband and seven children, three daughters, Melvina (Mrs. John Huiras), Valena (Mrs. Fred Boury), and Mrs. Exxillia Kummet, and four sons, Joseph, Alfred, William and Maurice, all of Canton. Also 30 grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church Monday morning, the Rev. Fr. Niggemann officiating, and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Franklin F. Crotteau, 69, Wimberley, Texas, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009, following a battle with cancer.
He graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1957 before entering the U.S. Navy, serving his country faithfully and with pride for 21 and a half years. He served three tours in Vietnam and retired as a Chief Petty Officer.
Surviving are his wife, Jean; sons, Jeff (Gwen) of Mikana and Dan (Bernadette) of Rice Lake; a daughter, Christine (Steve) Olson of Rice Lake; an adopted daughter, Julianna Crotteau of San Diego, Calif.; a stepson, Robert (LaWanda) Enders; stepdaughters, Linnea Esparza, Karin (Mike) Barter and Ellen Smith; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Stoeklen of Rice Lake and Marion (Kenny) Eggleston of Sarona; brothers, Thomas (Wendy) of Rice Lake, Maurice Jr. (Jean) of Dartmouth, Mass., and Delbert (Shirley) of Hutchinson, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Janet Crotteau; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice in 1980 and Mary in 1998; brothers, John in 1995 and Dick in 2002; and sisters, Olicia (Lee) Mljnek in 2004 and Valencia in 1949.
Services were held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas, on Monday, June 29.

Joyce Crotteau
Funeral services were held Friday at 10:30 a.m. from First Lutheran church of Barron for Joyce M. Crotteau, 41, of Rt. 1, Cameron, who died last Tuesday (8 Jul 1980) at an Eau Claire hospital. Dennis Rinehart officiated at the rites, and burial was made in Wayside cemetery.
Joyce Swant, born Nov. 10, 1938 at Rice Lake, was a 1957 graduate of Barron high school. She married Gerald A. Crotteau Feb. 6, 1960 at Rice Lake, and has been active in the Cameron area working with 4-H groups.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald, one daughter, Julie, at home, three sons, Jeffery, James and Jason, all at home; her parents, Marvin and Dorothy Swant of Chetek; one sister, Mrs. Elmer Huiras of Rice Lake; and a brother, James Swant of Chetek.

Thirty-seven-year old Gloria Crotteau, of Cameron, died Friday 20 Dec 1991 at Barron Medical Center.
Funeral services were Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rice Lake with Rev. Brendan Kunda officiating and burial following in Pine Grove Cemetery in Cameron.
Mrs. Crotteau was born Gloria Williams on Nov. 20, 1954 in Rice Lake and grew up and was educated in Chetek. After high school graduation she went to work for Wright Products in Rice Lake, where she was employed at the time of her death.
She married Gerald Crotteau at Cameron April 20, 1985.
She is survived by her husband; her parents, Maynard and Vivian Williams of Chetek; four sisters, Marie Helton of Medford, Ore., Arrah Anderson of Granley, Miss., Linda Kaylore of Pewaukee and Susan Kowalski of Schofield; one brother, James Williams of Wausau; maternal grandmother Hilda Mortenson of Chetek; one stepdaughter, Julie Williamson of Japan; three stepsons, Jeff, Jim and Jason Crotteau, all of Rice Lake; 1 great nephew and three stepgrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
