• Obituary, 9 Sep 2001 - Concord, Merrimack, NH, USA

Albert R. St. Cyr Veteran, Bow town manager Albert R. St. Cyr, 68, of Rt. 9, Barrington, died Sunday September 9, 2001 at the Hospice House, Concord, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born March 4, 1933, in Cape Porpoise, Maine the son of Albert St. Cyr and Aurore (Croteau) St. Cyr. He moved with his family to Portland, ME at the age of seven. He attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1952.

Mr. St. Cyr served in the National Guard and the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. He graduated from San Diego State University in California with a degree in Public Administration in 1961. There followed an extensive career in city administration in California. He was Assistant City Manager of Mountain View, California for three years. Subsequently, he was Business Manager of Fremont Union High School District and the Palo Alto School District. For three years he was City Manager of Pacifica, California.

He worked for both the school systems in East Palo Alto and Las Alto, CA. In 1987 Mr. St. Cyr returned to New England and served for two years as Town Manager of Barrington. In 1989 he became the first and only Town Manager of Bow, where he served until July of 2001, retiring because of ill health.

Colleagues described Mr. St. Cyr as a fiscally conservative and socially progressive man who handled local politics with finesse and conviction. Mr. St. Cyr was highly thought of by officials and townspeople alike and will be greatly missed. He was described as a gentleman of character with a great heart. His association with the Town of Bow and its citizens was perhaps the most rewarding for him. He had a special affection for this place and its people. It was a fruitful and happy culmination of a long career.

Survivors include his wife, Alberta (Witham) Calef-St. Cyr and his wife, Ann of Dublin, Ohio; a sister, Sylvia A. O'Connell of Portland, ME; several nieces and nephews of Maine; a step-daughter, Andrea Calef Rowell and her husband, Tim of Barrington; two step-sons, William Calef and his wife, Cathy of LeHigh, FL and Jere Calef and his wife, Jane of Barrington.

Al was blessed with the addition of nine step-grandchildren including Dustin and Ryan Lester of Dublin, OH, Nathan Conley of Barrington, Arianne Conley of Portsmouth, Josiah Calef of LeHigh, Fl, Kelsey and Alyssa Calef of Barrington, Kristyl Brum of San Jose, CA and Justin Chadbourne of LeHigh, FL. His NH family is truly grateful for the chance to have known him and for the love and care he bestowed on his "Berta".

Funeral Services were held at the Purdy Memorial Chapel September 14. Burial is in Pine Grove Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the Crvna Hospice House, 240 Pleasant St., PO Box 1797, Concord, NH 03301.
