DAVID AUDCENT INFO - Rootsweb Data
Magdeleine Pewadjiwonokwe born 1788 Lac-de-la-Che; bap. 21 June 1818 in Oka, having for godmother Therese Mikisikwe.
Married Charles Francois Denys de LaRonde de Thibaudiere. Witnesses to the marriage were Pierre Gamelin Gaucher and Antoine Hyacinthe Lamaire St. Germaine; Toussaint Piot and Francois Langevin dit Lacroix. Of this marriage they had issue of eight children and they were legitimised by the marriage.
Notes for CHARLES FRANCOIS DENIS THIBAUDIERE DE LA RONDE:
ONE OF THE DRUMMOND ISLAND VOYAGEURS
LA RONDE, CHARLES, (Charles Francois Denis de la Ronde and Thibaudiere 1763-1840) a titled gentleman who claimed descent from the Bourbons of France. Letters addressed to him always bore his title. One of his ancestors was Sieur Pierre Denys de la Ronde, who obtained a grant in the city of Quebec in 1658. He was one of the voyagers who removed from Drummond Island to Penetanguishene when the garrison there was closed in 1828. During his life time he was a resident of Penetanguishene, Beausoleil Island, Holland Landing and Coldwater. He was a fur-trader at Penetanguishene and suffered heavily when falsely imprisoned there by other merchants of Montreal. The Indians considered him as one who was dead and would therefore do no business with him.
Charles DeLaronde was 55 years old when he married, but the oldest child legitimized at that time was born about 1798 when Charles had been 35 years old. Various records indicate he had other children born earlier than the nine listed on the marriage record. The son born about 1798 was Michel Antoine who had also married four months before his parents, with the marriage record stating a brother named Francois WAKICHKIPINESI was one of the witnesses.
Present, and baptized at the marriage on June 22, 1818 of Charles Francois Delaronde, Tibaudiere, a voyageur and Magdeleine Pewadjiwonokwe, an Indian woman, were the following nine children, of the above mentioned couple:
Michel-Antoine, aged 20 years and 4 months
Marie-Louise, aged 17 years and 9 months
Marie-Angelique, aged 13 years and 10 months
Julie, aged 11 years
Elizabeth-Agathe, aged 9 years and six months
Elizabeth, aged 6 years and six months
Paul, aged 5 years and two months
Etienne, aged 3 years
Marguerite, aged 1 year

General Notes: Husband - Charles Francois Chevalier Denys De Laronde
It appears there is little in the way of documentary evidence to show where the children were born. If they were all born at Drummond Island, that is located in Ontario, Canada, near Midland, Ontario.
In some instances I have listed OKA as the place of birth which is located in Quebec, Canada. Further research needs to be done in order to show his children were born in Ontario.

EXTRACT FROM REGISTER OF BAPTISM D`OKA, COUNTY OF TWO MOUNTAINS, P.Q. CANADA -1818 Copy from original in possession of Mrs. Evely McEwen, Toronto, direct descendant.
On the 17th April 1818, I have baptized Marie Louise Piwabanokwe (born as well as her sisters at Chibechkon near Lake Huron) born the 25th September 1800; Marianne Angelique Apikwetchimon born the 1st November 1804; Julie born the 23rd June 1807 and Elizabeth Agathe born the 10th September 1808; they being the children of the union of Charles Laronde, voyageur and Memadjiwanokse, a heathen. The godmother of Marie Louise was Marie Therese Mikisikwe; the godmother of Marie Anne Angelique was Marie Anne Missosikwe, undersigned, the godmother of Julie was Marie Anne Menneclier undersigned, and the godmother of Elizabeth Agathe was Elizabeth Edith Tessepatikokwe who like the other godmother and the four children are unable to write... names printed Elizabeth; Marie Anne Menneclin; Marie Anne Langlade.
We, the undersigned, curate of l`annociation D`Oka, certify the foregoing extract is a true copy from the original register deposited in the archives of the said parish..S.R. Grandmotagne, pretre 11th July 1921.
The explanation by Ida Schneider. The children were first all baptized as illegitimate, then not until June 1818 was Charles Francoise able to get legally married and legitimize his children. This copy was obtained by relatives of Mrs. McEwen, in fact it was Edward Boucher, youngest son, daughter of Charles Francois, the above. Edward went to Montreal to find out about his grandfathers will.
INFO FROM CINDY LEUTZ (FAMILY TREE MAKER) MARRIAGE NOTES
The original French version of this marriage extract; Madgeleine, is identified as "sauvagesse de Lac de La Clie" which means "a native woman of the Lake Simcoe area (Lac de La Clie being the old name for Lake Simcoe) so whatever tribe was around at that time in that area that`s what she likely was. My guess is Chippewa

In the early 1720's about 250 Nipissing and 100 Algonquin were convinced by French missionaries to join the 300 Christian Mohawk at the Sulpician mission village of the Lake of Two Mountains. (Lac des Deux Montagnes) just West of Montreal Quebec Canada.
This bizarre mix of former enemies, both of whom who had just recently converted to Christianity and allied with the French. Known as Oka (Algonquin for "pickerel") and Kanesatake (Iroquois for sandy place).

Wife Mary Ann Okejegaw
Born: Cir 1765 - Windsor, Essex, ON, CAN Baptized: Died: - Penetanguishene, Simcoe, ON, CAN Buried:
Children
Birth Notes: Husband - Charles Francois Chevalier Denys De Laronde
Now known as Windsor, Ontario, Canada
General Notes: Husband - Charles Francois Chevalier Denys De Laronde
It appears there is little in the way of documentary evidence to show where the children were born. If they were all born at Drummond Island, that is located in Ontario, Canada, near Midland, Ontario.
In some instances I have listed OKA as the place of birth which is located in Quebec, Canada. Further research needs to be done in order to show his children were born in Ontario.
