BERLIN -- Marcel V. Croteau, 64, died July 2, 2009, at home.
He was born in Portsmouth on Sept. 28, 1944, to George and Alexina (Lapointe) Croteau. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1962.
He made his home in Keene. He was married to Gloria (Baillargeon) on Oct. 2, 1965.
He was employed for 36 years at Kingsbury Corp. in Keene, retiring in August of 2006.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and golfing. He traveled to Virginia to visit with his daughter and grandchildren, and to Oregon to visit his son.
Family includes daughter, Melissa Fitzgerald of Chesterfield, Va.; son, William Croteau of Portland, Ore.; brothers, Jules Croteau of Gorham, Emile Croteau, Maurice Croteau and Lionel Croteau, all of Berlin; sisters, Aurore Jutras of Clearwater, Fla., Robertine Blais of Windsor Locke, Conn., and Marguerite Frenette of Berlin; two grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 17, 2001.
SERVICES: Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High St., Berlin. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, 345 Pleasant St., Berlin, with the Rev. Jeffrey Statz officiating. Interment will follow in Russian City Cemetery, Hutchins Street, Berlin.

A snippet of the wealth of information;
My great grandfather Robert Franklin Meenach moved his family from Carter Co (Carter Caves area) to Fullerton Greenup Co in 1900. They lived in Carter Co as of Jun 1900. My grandfather Carlos always said he was born in Aug 1900 in Fullerton. So the family had to have moved between June and August, 1900. Robert Franklin was minister of Firebrick Christian Church in Firebrick, Lewis Co. He also was a truck farmer. One of his farming endeavours was the growing of sorghum cane. He processed the sorghum cane into syrup and sold it to the area stores, as far away as Cincinnati. He also had a sorghum press, mule powered, that he would go about the country side and process the sorghum for other farmers.
