• Obituary, 18 May 2009 - Orogrande, Otero, NM, USA

Dorothy Lorraine LeMay Crotteau of Orogrande, N.M., died May 18, 2009. She was 87.

The second of 11 children, Dorothy was born in Wisconsin Rapids on Feb. 20, 1922, the daughter of Chester A. LeMay and Sophia Johnson LeMay.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Agnes Knuth and Lillian Enerson, and three brothers, James LeMay, Clarence "Chet" LeMay, and Chester "Fizzer" LeMay.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald O. "Bud" Crotteau of Orogrande, N.M., Donna Crotteau Brandl and her husband, William, of Crozet, Va., Patricia Crotteau Tomlinson and her husband, Robert, of Junction City, and Nancy R. Crotteau of Alamogordo, N.M.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Krista K. Brandl, John T. Brandl, and Mary Beth Brandl, all of Charlottesville, Va., Jeffery M. Tomlinson of Stevens Point, and great-grandchildren, Samantha and Ben Griego and Ryan Brandl, all of Charlottesville, Va.

She is survived by her sisters, Irene LeMay Gross Steinke, Darlene "Dolly" LeMay Sering and her husband, Norman, all of Wisconsin Rapids, June LeMay Tomczyk and her husband, Dennis "Kelly," of Mosinee, Marie Jane LeMay and her husband, Theodore "Dick," Kenneth LeMay and his wife, Carol, all of Rudolph, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A childhood bout of rheumatic fever caused extensive damage to her heart. Despite her illness, she graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids in 1943. She attended nursing school in Marshfield, but a second bout of rheumatic fever forced her to withdraw. On May 3, 1947, she and Bud were married at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Rudolph. His military career took them to many places -- Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Germany. In 1978, she underwent open-heart surgery and received two stainless steel heart valves. She far outlived the 15 years of projected life expectancy.

If Dorothy regretted not having finished nursing school, she never complained. She was a homemaker. Her hands were always busy. She was skilled at crocheting and embroidery and made many items for friends and loved ones. She was a great traveler and an avid reader. She was a kind, gentle and sweet person, much beloved by her large family and many friends.

Dorothy's life was celebrated with Mass on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at White Sands Missile Range Catholic Chapel. A memorial celebration took place Monday, May 25 at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel, 2301 First St., Alamogordo, N.M. In addition, a Memorial Service will be held in Wisconsin in June 2009 at St. Phillips Catholic Church.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Good Samaritan-Betty Dare Center, Alamogordo, N.M., for their loving and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Dorothy's name to the Good Samaritan Society-Betty Dare, 3101 N. Florida Ave., Alamogordo, NM 88310

The Crotteau family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.

Obituary:
Donald Crotteau
Nov 26 2002 12:00AM

He was born on Jan. 4, 1921, to Peter and Mary (King) Crotteau in the Town of Doyle, Barron County. When Donald was three years old, his parents moved into Rice Lake. After finishing kindergarten and first grade at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Rice Lake, his parents moved to the Chetek area, and Donald finished his education at the Sumner School in the Town of Sumner. He then farmed with his parents until being drafted into the U.S. Army. After his discharge from service, he again farmed with his parents in the Haugen area until 1947, at which time he bought a farm east of Canton where he farmed until his retirement. After retiring, he continued living on the farm until he sold it and moved into Rice Lake in 1991. He was a WW II Army veteran, a member of the Rice Lake Moose Lodge, member of the Rice Lake American Legion and a member of AARP. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards and shooting pool.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from the Jarocki Funeral Chapel in Rice Lake with burial of cremains in Northern Wisconsin Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wis.
