Yolande S. Croteau 1929 2006 SPRINGFIELD Yolande S. Croteau, 76, of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, November 29, 2006. She was born in Berlin, New Hampshire on December 25, 1929, a beloved daughter of the late Frank H. and Albina (Morin) Croteau. She moved to Manchester, New Hampshire in 1932 and lived there until moving to Springfield in 1951. She received her Masters Degree in Education from American International College in Springfield. She was employed as the office manager for the former Vadnais Lumber Company in Springfield and later was employed as a business and accounting teacher at the Stafford Springs High School in Connecticut. She then worked for 25 years as an accounting professor at Springfield Technical Community College and retired in 1994. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the National Education Association and the Massachusetts Community College Council. She was a former officer of the Artisans Society, a member of L'Union Saint Jean Baptiste Society, a member and officer of Le Cercle des Dames Franηaise and a longtime volunteer at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. She was a past treasurer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New England and the scholarship chairman of the Women's College Club. She was an active parishioner at the former Saint Joseph Church on Howard Street in Springfield where she was a longtime Lector and Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Children of Mary and an associate member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality. She completed certificates in several areas in the Diocesan Lay Ministry Formation Program. She was the Religious Education Coordinator for the parish and received the Pope Pius X Award for her many years of service. She was the instructor of Baptismal, Confirmation and First Communion students and was the instructor of adult catechesis for women in the parish. She served for many years as the chairman and treasurer for the Catholic Stewardship Appeal for the parish, worked the weekly Bingo for many years and was a member of the Friendly Visitors of the parish. Following the closure of Saint Joseph Parish on June 26, 2005, she became an active communicant of the Cathedral of Saint Michael the Archangel in Springfield. She leaves her loving sisters, Fernande Y. Vadnais of West Hartford, CT, Gaetane L. Paul of Springfield and Rejane A. Berube of Tampa, FL. Her loving sister-in-law, Cecile Croteau of Springfield and her many cherished nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. She was predeceased by her loving brother, Gabriel H. Croteau who was Called Home in 1989. Her funeral will be held Saturday morning, December 2, 2006 at 8:30 a.m. from the St. Pierre Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, 7 Chapin Terrace (at the corner of Chestnut Street near Baystate Medical Center) in Springfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of Saint Michael the Archangel, 254 State Street in Springfield. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street in Springfield. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Chapin Chapel on Friday, December 1, 2006 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. For those who prefer to make a memorial donation, they may be made in her memory to Saint Michael Cathedral Parish, 260 State Street, Springfield, MA 01103.
