BERLIN -- Rose Anna Croteau, 81, died Dec. 20, 2009, at Androscoggin Valley Hospital. She was born in Norway, Maine, Feb. 4, 1928, to Pierre and Josephine (Valley) Gagnon.
She worked as a stitcher at Wareknitters and a custodian for James River Corp & Crown Vantage. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends and will be remembered for her love of flowers. Her greatest love was for her numerous friends. She enjoyed knitting and her little garden. She also enjoyed volunteering at Guardian Angel Thrift Shop in Berlin.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Laurier Dubey Sr. on May 19, 1967, and Validore "Sam" Croteau on Sept. 4, 2001; one son, Laurier Dubey Jr.; and one grandson, Laurier "JD" John Dubey III.
Family members include two sons, Ronald Croteau of Berlin and George "Skip" Croteau of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Shirley Labrecque of Berlin and Jo Ann Downs of Gorham; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fleury Patry Funeral Home, 72 High St., Berlin. Interment will immediately follow the services in St. Kieran Cemetery, Hutchins Street, in Berlin. NH

MARSHFIELD ? Alden H. Martin, 77, of Marshfield died March 9, 2005, at Central Vermont Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Jan. 8, 1928, to Stanley and Edith (Farnham) Martin in Brookfield.
He entered the U.S. Navy in July 1945 and served as a fireman first class on board the USS Arkansas. After leaving the Navy he spent 43 years working in the granite industry with Jones Brothers, and retiring from Beck and Beck in April 1990. He was also a familiar face for 20 years working at Albert Mays' Auction Barn at Molly's Pond.
On June 18, 1948, he married Vena Mae Croteau. They were married for more than 56 years and lived all their married life in Marshfield. Besides his wife Vena, he leaves behind his three girls, Cynthia Hastings and her husband Gordan of Danville, Cathy Cyr and her husband Paul of Fernandera Beach, Fla., and Christy Barclay and her husband Peter of Woodbury.
He also leaves four granddaughters, Fawn Marie Baesemann and her husband Al of St. Johnsbury, Jennifer Hallett and her husband Robbie of Waterford, and Stephanie and Danielle Barclay of Woodbury; three great-grandsons, Christopher, Austin and Jacob Baesemann of St. Johnsbury, and an unborn grandson due in May; two sisters, Beverly Dersorier and husband George of Syracuse, N.Y., Marilyn Acebo and husband Vic of Barre; and two brothers, Floyd Ardway and wife Jane of Writz, Va., and the late Stanley Martin Jr. of Spartanburg, S.C.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and going to lawn sales.
Alden was a private, quiet man who would readily help others with vigor. He was a loving family man who lived each day for his wife, girls and grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at des Groseilliers Funeral Home on Church Street in Hardwick. In keeping with Alden's wishes, there will be no funeral. Burial will be in the spring at the convenience of his family.
