Portsmouth Daily Times Obituary, Tuesday, Mar. 11, 1930

Mrs. Nancy Lewis Injuries received five months ago when she fell while walking in her home, 1315 Summitt street, proved fatal to Mrs. Nancy Virginia Lewis, 64, wife of William Lewis, who passed away at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Lewis suffered an injured back in the fall and since that time had been in poor health. Her former home was at Friendship where she lived 20 years. She was a member of the Friendship M. E. church. Mrs. Lewis was born in 1866 and was united in marriage September 14, 1886.

She is survived by the husband, four sons, Joseph, John and Oscar of Dayton, James of Friendship, six daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Hickerson, Mrs. Lula George, Mrs. Genevieve Smith of Akron, Mrs. Sadie Anderson of Friendship, Mrs. Nellie Finlay of Dayton, and Mrs. Louis Odel of Portsmouth.

Funeral services will be held in the Friendship M. E. Church at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. C. L. Thayer of Beaver, Ohio officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship cemetery.

Note:
(In the obituary of Nancy Virginia (Shover) Lewis it gives a surviving daughter as Mrs. Nellie Finlay of Dayton. So that you don't go on a wild search. Mrs. Nellie Finlay is Mrs Millie Furlong who lived in Dayton. Guess someone messed that obit up. I can see someone mistaking Millie for Nellie but Finlay is a stretch for Furlong. Shirley)

Note: Samuel McCombe may NOT be the child of Alexander and Ann Jane, but a relative. In 1881 Samual is 24 years old born in Ontario. He is older than Elliett Julia McCombe - the daughter of Alexander who was born in IRELAND.. Samuel is listed as a FRAMER not a FARMER.

The marriage certificate DOES list Alexander McCombe as the father though. I have a hard time believing that Elliett was born in Ireland and brought back to Canada, but then again, it could happen.

Research Notes: Husband - Archibald Little

Located Archibald living out in Regina, Sask, Can with his son Adam and Maggie in the 1911 Census. At age 85, I don't know if he died out there, or came back to Ontario.

24 Mar 2009 - From Maryilyn's notes:
I have Ellen Little's parents as Archibald Little 1826 and Jemima Turnball 1827. When I found Euphemia b1856, Ellen's sister, I found her death cert under Euphemia McComb (She, whoever she is, marries Thomas Mccomb) but her parents are Archibald Little and Euphemia Laing/Lang.

The following are notes from my FTM programme;
1861 census E1026 Canada West Grey Co District 3, 3rd Ward page 22?
Archibald little 34 Farmer born Scotland FC
Jemima 33
Robert 12
Archibald 10
Hellen 8
Euphemia 5
Agnes 3
Janet 1

Research Notes: Wife - Jemima Turnbull

This is a very popular name in Scotland at the time. There are quite a large number of ladies with this name all born around the same time in Scotland.

Research Notes: Child - Robert John LITTLE

Listed in the 1881 Collingwood, Grey East, Ontario census as born in 1849. Date of birth located in the Ontario Marriage records 8 Feb 1850.

1911 Thornbury, Ont Census indicates he is Scottish, yet the 1871 Census indicated he is Irish.
