LEOMINSTER - Alberta "Bertha" (Croteau) Allain, 97, of Leominster, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at Nashoba Valley Medical Center, after a short illness. She was born on May 6, 1910, in Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Clement and Melvina (Leclerc) Croteau. She came to live in the United States at the age of 5. Bertha was employed by Delisle Apron Co. for 15 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church.
She leaves her beloved children, three daughters, Louise Carbone and her husband, Ernie of South Yarmouth, Cecile DeBettencourt and her husband, Robert [ Allain ] of Leominster and Doris Clow also of Leominster; her son, Dr. John Allain and his wife, Susan of Weston; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces; three sisters, Sr. Clemence Croteau of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Putnam, Conn., Rachel Desmarais of Ayer, and Antoinette Leger and her husband, Donald of Fitchburg.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albini Allain, who died in 1970. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Our Lady of the Lake Church Building Fund, 1400 Main St., Leominster, MA 01453, or to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, c/o Development Office, 72 Church St., Putnam, Conn. 06260.

William Shover, 75, of Shearer's Hollow, passed away at 9 a.m. Friday at his home. He was born May 24, 1863.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Shover, and nine children: William Shover Jr. of Rome, Fielden Shover, Mrs. Roy Shoemaker of Sciotoville, Alfred Shover of Shearer's Hollow, Mrs. James Logan, Mrs. Jake McGraw, Mrs. George Mayfield of North Moreland, Ernest and Bert Shover at home. He also leaves 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Eight children preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Brethren church, with Rev. Wolfe in charge. Burial will be in Memorial park cemetery, under the direction of Daehler's. The body is at the residence.
