Napoleon was born 1 March 1868 in a little town in northern Maine called Hamlin his father & mother died young and like my mother he also went to live with his grandparents.
The story is told by my mother that dad started out on his own at around age 14 and traveled to 47 of the 48 states. At the time working at whatever job he could find, lumberjack, coal mining, farm worker, etc. Gold prospecting in the California Gold Rush and again in the Alaskan gold rush.
He fell in love with a girl in Idaho around Idaho Falls. They married and had a son naming him Harry Dube. Some time later they were divorced so he went back to his roots in up state Maine where he met my mother and asked for her hand in marriage. He was 53 she was 19 at that time.
He died of cancer at age 69, 15 Nov. 1935. I was 12 days old.

BERLIN -- Rose Anna Croteau, 81, died Dec. 20, 2009, at Androscoggin Valley Hospital. She was born in Norway, Maine, Feb. 4, 1928, to Pierre and Josephine (Valley) Gagnon.
She worked as a stitcher at Wareknitters and a custodian for James River Corp & Crown Vantage. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends and will be remembered for her love of flowers. Her greatest love was for her numerous friends. She enjoyed knitting and her little garden. She also enjoyed volunteering at Guardian Angel Thrift Shop in Berlin.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Laurier Dubey Sr. on May 19, 1967, and Validore "Sam" Croteau on Sept. 4, 2001; one son, Laurier Dubey Jr.; and one grandson, Laurier "JD" John Dubey III.
Family members include two sons, Ronald Croteau of Berlin and George "Skip" Croteau of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Shirley Labrecque of Berlin and Jo Ann Downs of Gorham; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fleury Patry Funeral Home, 72 High St., Berlin. Interment will immediately follow the services in St. Kieran Cemetery, Hutchins Street, in Berlin. NH
