Maurice J Croteau:
At time of 50th Anniversary (Jul 2, 1976), couple had 24 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. He worked as Oakland Co. Supervisor, member of county Board of Supervisors (1946-1955, re-appointed 1958, resigned 1960); Pontiac city commissioner; Pontiac school board member (1951-1955) & vice-president (1954); owned Edison Food Market, 183 Edison Rd; owned Maurice's Catering Service, 179 Edison Rd.
He was an organizer and first president of the Greater Pontiac Community Advisory Council. Served as a member of the Pontiac City Planning Commission & as member of the boards of Social Services of Oakland County, Lourdes Nursing Home and the Oakland County Hospital. Survived by 2 brothers, 23 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. A rosary service was held at 7:30 p.m. at Donelson-Johns Funeral Home, 855 W Huron. An Elk's Lodge of Sorrow ceremony followed at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

FR tree trimmer dies after accident

SWANSEA - Part of a fallen tree cut down during a tree-trimming operation struck a worker's head Wednesday afternoon, where he later died from his injuries. Swansea Police responded to a 911 call at 2:11 p.m. Wednesday to 89 Stoney Hill Road, where they found the victim, identified as Michael Croteau, 41, of 386 Durfee St., Fall River, MA, USA on the ground and unresponsive.
Dept. Chief Robert Furtado said the accident occurred while Croteau was working for his brother Russell's tree company, Trees R Russ of Fall River, MA USA.
According to the police report, Russell Croteau was in a basket truck, trimming and cutting down part of a tree that was approximately 30 to 40 feet high. "[Russell] was topping the tree, piece by piece, and dropping the logs onto the ground," said Dept. Chief Furtado from the police report. "His brother [Michael] was bending over while the chipper was going. The log struck him in the head."
Police said the log was approximately one foot wide and three feet long and weighed between 50-60 pounds. A co-worker had begun to try to assist Michael while the owner of the residence placed the 911 call. After arriving at the scene, both Swansea police and Swansea Ambulance corps also treated Michael at the scene before he was MedFlighted to Rhode Island Hospital, where he died late Thursday afternoon.
A representative from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed that the accident was under investigation.
Michael D. Croteau of Fall River, formerly of Waltham, an employee of Coca-Cola Bottling Co., died Thursday at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was 41.

Michael F. Croteau 1957-2009 HOLYOKE - Michael F. Croteau 51, formerly of the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at UMASS Hospital in Worchester after a long and difficult fight with cancer.
He attended Springfield Technical Community College his studies were interrupted by this fight. He was an avid fan of music and enjoyed bringing laughter and joy to his family and friends.
Born in Springfield, he is survived by his parents Bernice and Carl Croteau Sr, his two children, son Colin Croteau of Canada, daughter Aja Croteau of Kentucky, his financee Cynthia Ward of Holyoke, his three brothers, Carl Croteau Jr. and his wife Diane of Springfield, MA, Gregory Croteau of Montague, MA, Joseph Croteau and his wife Lucy of E. Longmeadow, MA his two sisters, Jacqueline Croteau-Fleury and her husband Patrick of West Springfield MA and sister Catherine Powers and husband Thomas of Springfield, MA, as well as nieces and nephews and extended family whom he loved very much.
He was pre deceased by his brother Daniel Croteau. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am at St Catherine of Siena Church 1023 Parker Street in Springfield MA on Thursday May 28th, 2009, with a graveside service at Hill Crest cemetery.
