NEW BEDFORD \emdash Madeleine D. (Croteau) Methia, of New Bedford, 68, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the widow of Robert E. Methia.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Wilfrid and Eugenie (Desorcy) Croteau. She lived in New Bedford most of her life and was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church.
A graduate of St. Anthony High School in New Bedford and Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH, she earned a degree in elementary education and taught school in St. Albans, VT, Grosvernordale, CT, Springfield, MA, Westport, MA, as well as 21 years in New Bedford at John Hannigan and Casimir Pulaski Schools, before retiring in 1992.
Mrs. Methia enjoyed reading, shopping, making jigsaw and crossword puzzles and most of all spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include three children, Lyne Santos and her husband, Daniel, Michelle Siegel and her husband, Joseph, both of Dartmouth, and Robert A. Methia and his wife, Christine of Acushnet; four granddaughters, Jennifer Oliver, Raegan DeMello, Renee Siegel and Alexandra Siegel; three great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three sisters, Yvonne Dupuis and Cecile Oliver of New Bedford, and Evelyn Teixeira of Mattapoisett.
She was the sister of the late Normand, Maurice and Eugene Croteau, and Therese Perry and Jeanne McClurg.
Visitation will be Friday evening only 5-8 PM at Rock Funeral Home. Her Funeral will be from the Funeral Home on Saturday at 8 AM followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet at 9 AM. Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Sisters of Holy Cross, 377 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, NH, 03109.
