LEON J. CROTEAU, 82, OF 39 Deerfield St., a lawyer for 35 years until his retirement in 1965 and a handwriting analyst, died last night in Fairlawn Hospital.
He was born in Worcester, son of NARCISSE L. and MARY M. (TOUGAS) CROTEAU, and was a lifelong resident.
He was a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and was a civil engineer before becoming a lawyer. He was a graduate of the University of Maine and Northeastern University. He was graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in graphology, the analyzing of handwriting.
He was a member of the Worcester County Bar Association, Old Timers Club of WPI, TOUGAS Family Association and Union St. ST. JEAN BAPTISTE Society.
He leaves his widow, MABLE E. (TURPIN) CROTEAU: a daughter, GLORIA, wife of RALPH LEO; a stepdaughter, MRS. ROXANNA JOHNSON, both of Worcester; a brother, DR. JOHN T. CROTEAU, professor of sociology and economics at Notre Dame University, South Bend, Ind.; four sisters, MRS. WINIFRED LEWALD of Braintree, Misses BERYL and MILDRED CROTEAU, both of Norwood, and MRS. CROTEAU; Leon Joseph December 22, 1924 - December 30, 2008 Leon Joseph Croteau, beloved husband of Odellia (nee Heisler) of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the age of 84 years.
Leon is survived by his loving wife, Del; his sons, Garry and Bernard (Wendy Eastgaard); his daughters, Debra and Judy Lynn; his sisters, Florilda, of Pontiex, SK, RoseAlma, of Swift Current, SK and Roseanna, of Prince George, BC.
Leon also leaves behind his five loving grandchildren; John Croteau, Robert Armstrong, Amanda Armstrong, Keaton Eastgaard-Croteau, Maddison Eastgaard-Croteau; and three great-grandchildren, Keiya Raine, Damien Robert, and Channelle Annette; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Leon was predeceased by his father, Gideon Croteau; his mother, Amanda (nee Boulet) Croteau; brothers, Gerard, Louis and Hirmidas; sisters, Anna, Margaret, Matilda, Ernestine, Rosilda, and Leontine.

Born May 26, 1922, in Marlborough, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lang and Rose Perro Lang.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Leon, in 1989.
She was employed with the former Wilbur Bros. markets in Marlborough and North Swanzey, N.H.
She was a member of Millville (W.Va.) United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Davison of Chester, Vt.; two sons, Douglas Croteau of Keene, N.H., and Wesley Croteau of Harpers Ferry; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one niece; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy and Alice, and one brother, Carroll.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Marlborough.
