• Biography, 1919-2000 - Montreal, , QC, CAN
In part...
Pierre Elliott Trudeau was born in Montreal in 1919; his father was Quebecois, his mother of Scottish descent. He went to a local school, Academie Querbes, and then to the Jesuit college, Jean-de-Brebeuf. In spite of the Depression, Trudeau's father had become a wealthy man in the 1930s and the family toured Canada and Europe frequently. In 1940, Trudeau began studying law at the University of Montreal. As a student, he was required to join the Canadian Officers Training Corps during the war, but like many Quebeckers, Trudeau was opposed to conscription.
After graduating in 1943, he passed his bar exams, and then enrolled in a Master's program at Harvard. In 1946, he went to Paris to study at the ecole des sciences politiques, and then at the London School of Economics in Britain. By 1948, Trudeau was on a backpacking tour of Eastern Europe, and the Middle and Far East, areas of considerable turbulence in the post-war world. After many adventures, he arrived back in Canada the following year.
Trudeau worked in Ottawa as advisor to the Privy Council before returning to Montreal. He began supporting labour unions, especially during in [sic] the Asbestos Strike, and criticized the repression of the Union Nationale under Premier Duplessis. With other outspoken intellectuals, Trudeau started the journal Cite Libre as a forum for their ideas. In 1961, he began teaching law at the University of Montreal. In 1965, the Liberal party was looking for potential candidates in Quebec; Trudeau and two of his colleagues, Jean Marchand and Gerard Pelletier, were invited to run for the party in the federal election that year. They won their seats, and in April 1967, Trudeau became Minister of Justice. Within a year, he had reformed the divorce laws and liberalized the laws on abortion and homosexuality.

I played most sports in high school and prep school, but golf was my best sport. I attended Wake Forest in NC to play golf and transferred to St. Anselm in Manchester, NH. I never finished college so I went to linotype trade school in Boston and became a typesetter for 40 years.

Gerard 'Jerry' Creteau, Nashua
Gerard "Jerry" Creteau, 71, passed from this earth into God's Light on March 20, 2009. Born May 10, 1937, in Rochester, NH, Jerry was raised in Nashua, NH and attended Nashua schools. He was educated at Lawrence Academy, Wake Forest University, and Saint Anselm College. Jerry was a communicant of the Parish of the Resurrection, Nashua, NH. Jerry was an ardent supporter of all New England sports teams and an avid golfer, a sport he played his entire life.
Jerry spent most of his career working in the printing and publishing industry, primarily as a typesetter with Sullivan Brothers Printing in Lowell, Massachusetts. He also owned and operated a small typesetting business, finally retiring with the United States Postal Service.
He often said his greatest accomplishment was his four sons. He took great pride in "his boys" and spent time with all of his seven grandchildren. Jerry spent many hours coaching and volunteering for his sons' various sports interests.
Jerry enjoyed gardening, traveling, and shared many memories of golf trips with friends. Jerry was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Nashua lodge. Jerry was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 2005, and, throughout the years, was involved in various golf leagues.
Jerry was predeceased by his father, Raymond, his mother Margaret, and a brother, Raymond junior. Jerry is survived by a brother, Charles of Greenacres, Florida, and his four sons, Jerry Jr. and his children, Adrian and Rene of Nashua; Jeffrey, his wife Alexandria and daughter Arianna of Amherst; James, his wife Brenda and children Alec and Colby of Nashua; and Jay, his wife Tonda and children Ava and Marin of Alton, NH. In addition Jerry has numerous other relatives, friends, and acquaintances that will miss him.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 28th, 2009 at 11:00AM in the Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad Street, Nashua, NH. Personal memories and condolences can be shared using an online memorial book at <http://www.Gerard-Creteau.virtual-memorials.com>. In lieu of flowers or donations, please take some time to share the game of golf with a loved one.
