Jean Baptiste Croteau b: circa 1800 was a voyageur with the North West Fur Trading Company. He traded on the great Lakes from 1816-1821 and then he signed a contract with another independant man, David DAVID, in 1821 to go to the Lake Huron, Ontario area.
When Jean Baptiste CROTEAU arrived in 1828 at Penetange Ontario with the Drummond Islanders, he was reportedly with his father and brother both named Charles. Another option could be that he was with his grandfather and father both named Charles.

WOONSOCKET - Charles H. Croteau, 68, of Hamilton St., Woonsocket, died Saturday, February 10, 2007, in the Philip Hulitar In-Patient Center in Providence. Born in Woonsocket September 1, 1938, a son of the late Clarence A. and Flora (Aubuchon) Croteau, he was the devoted husband of 45 years of Pauline A. (Rondeau) Croteau. He was a life long resident of Woonsocket and a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Woonsocket.
Charlie was a avid fisherman and worked on the assembly line at General Motors Corporation in Framingham for more than 27 years before retiring in 1987. After retirement he delivered flowers for Fontana's Florists in Woonsocket and was also an assistant director for the Menard Funeral Home and the Hathaway Funeral Service for 12 years.
Besides his wife, Mr. Croteau leaves two sons, Roger N. and his wife Lynn V. Croteau of North Smithfield, and Paul R. and his wife Sue A. Croteau of Cumberland. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Christy, Derek, Megan, Kyle, Brittney, Brandon and Nicholas, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Normand C. Croteau.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at 9:00AM from THE MENARD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Avenue, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean the Baptiste Cemetery, Wrentham Road, Bellingham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
